Nature at Night Fun Day

Saturday, October 26 from 10 am – 2 pm
FREE for Members or with General Admission

Some animals are most active at night. How do they function in the dark? At the Nature at Night Fun Day, learn more about the specialized features that allow nocturnal animals to be effective in the dark. There will be hands-on activities about the creatures of the night. Help with owl pellet dissections to learn more about what they eat and learn how bats use sound to find their way. In the Museum Exhibits, you can collect a complete set of 6 Nocturnal Animal Collectible Cards to take home. And don’t forget to collect your Halloween Treat Bag on your way out (while supplies last).

At 11 am, there will be a live underwater pumpkin carving by divers in the Oceans Tank.  If you miss the live demonstration or want to avoid the crowd, a video from a previous underwater pumpkin carving will play until 2 pm.

Visit the Around the House terrarium displays in the Wonderful World of Insects for Spider Special to see several species of spiders that you might find in your own backyard. There will also be carved pumpkins in the live animal enclosures in the Discover Exhibit. The pumpkins provide extra enrichment activities and a special treat for the live animals. The carvings will be based on the winning designs from the Pumpkin Stencil Contest.

This is a unique event you and your family won’t want to miss!
